Sand to Soles turns a beach into a foot check-up

The tactics behind ‘Foot Balance’ and the question that could have got you there.
Sand to Soles turns a beach into a foot check-up

Foot Balance · Dentsu Creative Thailand · September 2026

Most foot-health campaigns would struggle to persuade people to remove their shoes. Foot Balance found somewhere they’d already done it. Sand to Soles turned a Thai beach into an informal check-up, using footprints in the sand to help people spot potential problems and move directly towards custom-made insoles.

The Challenge

Foot problems can be easy to ignore, particularly when they develop gradually. A conventional screening event brings its own hurdles: people have to understand the issue, care enough to attend and submit to something that sounds distinctly medical. Foot Balance wanted to make that first check feel far less like an appointment.

The Strategy

Instead of asking how to persuade people to remove their shoes for a foot check, the campaign asked where they were already barefoot. The beach supplied the behaviour, the material and the mood.

It removed the awkward first step while placing people somewhere their feet were unusually visible. Sand also produced a natural impression of each foot, turning something people normally leave behind without thinking into a piece of personal evidence.

The campaign didn’t interrupt beach behaviour. It borrowed it.

The Execution

Visitors stamped their footprints into the sand and compared the impressions with a simple diagram to see whether their feet might need closer attention.

Anyone spotting a possible issue could scan a QR code, add Foot Balance on LINE and queue for custom-made insoles on the spot.

The beach wasn’t colourful scenery wrapped around a health message. Its natural properties did the work. Bare feet made participation easy. Sand became a simple first-check surface. And Foot Balance placed the next step within reach.

Campaigns That Used Similar Tactics

Creative Showrooming → Location-Transformed Showrooms:

The First Car Showroom Inside a Bus · Kia and Excel · Ogilvy El Salvador · 2022

Kia fitted a Picanto inside a working city bus, turning everyday public transport into a travelling dealership. Rather than asking potential customers to visit a showroom, it brought the car to people during their normal commute.

Sand to Soles makes the same kind of move. Foot Balance turns a beach into the start of its selling experience: somewhere people can recognise a potential need, get guidance, and move toward a customised product. The location doesn’t support the showroom. It becomes the showroom.

Media Metaphors → Let the Format Do the Arguing:

Smooth Deliveries · IAMS · adam&eve\TBWA · 2026

IAMS placed enormous furry pet bottoms above an airport baggage carousel. As suitcases emerged below, the machinery completed the digestive joke behind “smooth deliveries”.

Sand to Soles is a more functional version of the tactic. The setting doesn’t simply make the message more relevant. Its natural properties make the idea possible. People arrive barefoot, and the sand captures the evidence. In both campaigns, the environment isn’t just where the idea appears. Remove it and the idea disappears.
