Most fan activations reward participation. Better ones reward mastery. They begin with the details fans notice, the knowledge they accumulate and the skills they practise long after casual audiences have moved on. Turn that expertise into the game mechanic and the challenge does more than entertain. It gives knowledgeable fans an advantage, makes devotion visible and creates a credible role for the brand inside the culture.

Google Search Playground — Google, Google Brand Studio, 2023
To celebrate 25 years of Google Search, Google created an enormous interactive Doodle populated by the people, places and moments users had searched for most. Players explored the illustration to find 25 cultural icons and more than 1,700 hidden figures, objects and references. Familiarity turned a visual scavenger hunt into a test of cultural memory: the more closely players had followed music, sport, science and popular culture, the more rewarding the search became. The work was created by Google Brand Studio with Oddfellows.
